동아대 김재현 교수가 일생 모은 유적지 출토 옛사람 뼈, 동물 뼈 기증
문화재청 국립문화재연구원(원장 김연수)은 16일 오전 10시 30분 국립문화재연구원 분석과학관(대전 유성구)에서 동아대학교 김재현 교수로부터 기증받은 유적지 출토 옛사람 뼈 자료 등 400여 개체에 대한 기증식을 개최한다.
이번 기증은 국내 옛사람 뼈의 고고학 및 체질인류학 연구에 큰 기여를 해온 김재현 교수가 1990년부터 평생에 걸쳐 연구하고 소장한 옛사람 뼈의 기증 의사를 밝히면서 이루어졌다. 옛사람 뼈는 과거 사람들의 유전적‧체질적 특성뿐만 아니라 식생활, 사망연대, 환경, 질병, 인구구조 등을 밝혀낼 수 있는 매우 중요한 자료로, 국립문화재연구원은 이번 기증을 계기로 김 교수의 연구 성과를 국민과 함께 공유할 수 있는 기반을 마련하게 되었다.
이번 기증 자료에는 신석기시대 자료부터 조선시대 회곽묘(灰槨墓, 내부가 회벽인 묘)에서 출토되어 전신이 온전히 남아 있는 옛사람 뼈, 화장 뼈, 동물 뼈 등이 포함되어 있어서 추후 디엔에이(DNA) 및 동위원소 분석 등 관련 연구와 교육 등에 활발히 활용될 것으로 기대된다.
문화재청 국립문화재연구원은 앞으로 기증받은 옛사람 뼈와 동물 뼈 자료를 체계적으로 보관·관리하여 중요출토자료에 담긴 새로운 가치를 찾고, 이를 국민과 함께 나눌 수 있는 새 장을 열어갈 것이다.
10:30 a.m. today, the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage (NRICH; Kim Yeonsoo, Director General) of the Cultural Heritage Administration hosts a donation ceremony at the NRICH Analytical Science Center after receiving over 400 ancient human bones from Kim Jae-Hyun, a professor of Donga University.
The ceremony was held after Professor Kim has expressed his will to donate his collection of ancient human remains for the systematic preservation and research. Kim is a researcher who has made great contribution to archaeology and physical anthropology researches with bones of ancient Korean people. These bones, from 1990 when Kim began his lifetime research, provided a foundation for the NRICH to share research accomplishments with the general public.
Ancient human bones are very important sources to reveal not only people’s genetic and physical characteristics from the past, but also the paleodiet, chronology, environment, diseases and population structure as well.
These donated human remains date back to the Neolithic Age, and also include the whole skeletal remains from the Lime Soil Mixture Burials from the Joseon Dynasty, cremated bones as well as animal bones; they are expected to be the vital sources for the related researches and training such as the DNA and isotope analysis.
The NRICH plans to digitalize the donated ancient human bones along with animal bones, seek its new values through the advanced scientific technology along with systematic storing and management in order to open the new platform to share these values with the general public.
