Purpose of Establishment
The Seoul National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage is a research organization subsidiary to the Cultural Heritage Administration of the Republic of Korea. It was founded on February 28, 2017, with the purposes of carrying out academic investigations and studies about cultural heritage and laying the groundwork for their preservation, management, and utilization.
The Institute conducts academic investigations and research of major cultural heritage sites, including palaces, fortress walls, ancient tombs, and temple sites located in the Seoul Capital Area, verifies their respective historical value, and lays the academic foundation for the systematic preservation, management, and utilization of these heritage sites.
