동남아시아의 고고학, 10.28. 오전 10시 KW컨벤션(현장‧온라인 동시)
문화재청 국립문화재연구원(원장 김연수)은 오는 28일 대전 KW컨벤션에서 ｢2022 아시아의 고고학(Asian Archaeology)｣ 국제학술대회를 개최한다.
｢아시아의 고고학(Asian Archaeology)｣은 2011년부터 국립문화재연구원이 매년 개최하는 국제학술대회로, 주로 유라시아·동북아시아의 고고학적 성과를 다루어왔다. 올해에는 국내에서는 많이 논의되지 않았던 동남아시아의 고고학을 주제로 국내외 연구자들이 동남아시아의 고대 문화를 대표하는 유적과 고고학적 성과에 대해 발표할 예정이다.
먼저 1부에서는 ▲ 유라시아 해상 길(루트)과 문명의 교류(강희정, 서강대학교), ▲ 14세기 동남아시아의 소비자 선호도와 국제도시들(John N. Miksic, 국립싱가포르대학교), ▲ 고대 동남아시아의 석제구슬과 유리구슬의 유통(Alison Carter, 오리건대학교) 등 3개의 주제발표를 통해 유라시아와 동남아시아를 잇는 해양 교류에 대해 살펴본다.
2부에서는 ▲ 2017~2022년 안장성 옥 에오 문화의 고고학 조사 성과(Nguyen Huu Gieng, 베트남 안장성 옥 에오 문화유적관리위원회), ▲ 태국 고고학의 주요 조사 및 연구 성과(Amara Srisuchat, 태국 미술부), ▲ 인도네시아의 고고학 연구 현황(Marlon Ririmasse, 인도네시아 국립연구혁신기관) 등 3개의 주제발표를 통해 그간 국내에는 잘 소개되지 않았던 동남아시아 고대문화에 대한 주요 연구 성과를 확인할 수 있다.
* 옥 에오 문화: 기원후 1~7세기 베트남과 캄보디아 남부 메콩강 삼각주의 광활한 지대에서 동·서양의 해상 교역을 기반으로 발달했던 고대 문화를 말함
3부에서는 동남아시아 고대문화의 공동 연구를 위한 미래 전략을 논의한다. ▲ 고대 토기 생산기술 복원을 위한 동남아시아 민족지고고학 조사 성과와 향후 연구 전략(전용호·남상원·이혜원, 국립문화재연구원), ▲ 앙코르 서측 프라사트 탑의 연구 및 복원 프로젝트 최신 성과(佐藤 由似, 나라문화재연구소), ▲동남아시아 문화유산 ODA(공적개발원조)사업의 새 방향(백경환, 한국문화재재단), ▲ 동남아시아 문화유산 보존을 위한 초청연수(ACPCS) 및 현지기술교육(OTTP) 협력 체계와 향후 과제(이재성, 국립문화재연구원 문화재보존과학센터) 순으로 4개의 주제발표가 진행된다.
* 민족지고고학: 현존하는 인간들의 행위를 관찰하여 고고자료와 비교하는 고고학의 한 분야
* 프라사트 탑: 캄보디아 앙코르의 공동 테라스에 있는 5개의 불그스름한 벽돌탑
주제발표 이후에는 강희정 교수(서강대학교)를 좌장으로 동남아시아에 대한 조사나 연구에 직접 참여하였던 국내 연구자들이 한 자리에 모여 동남아시아 고대문화 연구의 새로운 방향을 모색하는 학술 대담도 이어진다. 유라시아 문명 교류의 교차로로서 동남아시아가 지닌 역사적 가치와 의미를 밝히기 위한 조사 및 연구 방향이 다각적으로 논의될 것으로 기대된다.

문화재청 국립문화재연구원은 이번 국제학술대회가 동남아시아 고고학의 주요 조사·연구 성과를 확인하고, 동남아시아에 대한 공동 학술조사와 연구의 장이 될 것으로 기대하며, 앞으로도 국내외 고고학의 핵심 조사연구기관으로서 국제 고고학 분야를 선도하고, 성과를 공유하기 위하여 노력할 것이다.
The National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage (Kim Yeonsoo, Director General; hereafter NRICH) of the Cultural Heritage Administration will host the International Symposium 2022 Asian Archaeology at the KW Convention Center in Daejeon on October 28th, 2022.
Asian Archaeology is a series of symposia, which NRICH has been hosting annually since 2011, focusing mainly on archaeological outcomes from Eurasia and Northeast Asia. This year, however, researchers from Korea and abroad, taking active parts in Southeast Asian Archaeology, a somewhat overlooked topic in Korea, will discuss representative Ancient Southeast Asian sites and archaeological outcomes, either at the venue or online.
The first session will cover topics on maritime exchanges between Eurasia and Southeast Asia: ▲ Maritime Routes and Civilization Exchanges of Eurasia (Kang Heejung, Sogang University), ▲ Consumer Preferences and Cosmopolei in 14th- Century Southeast Asia (John N. Miksic, National University of Singapore/Nanyang Technological University), ▲ The Circulation of Stone and Glass beads in Ancient Southeast Asia (Alison Carter, University of Oregon).
The second session will continue with presentations on indicative studies about the ancient cultures in Southeast Asia: ▲ The archeological research achievements of OcEo culture in An Giang province in the period 2017-2022 (Nguyen HuuGieng, The Management Board of OcEo cultural sites in An Giang province, Vietnam), ▲ Major Explorations and Research Results of Archaeology in Thailand (Amara Srisuchat, The Fine Arts Department, Thailand), ▲ Archaeological Research in Indonesia: Current Context (Marlon Ririmasse, Research Center for Environmental Archaeology, Maritime Archaeology, and Sustainable CultureNational Research and Innovation Agency the Republic of Indonesia).
Future strategies for joint research projects between Korea and Southeast Asian countries will be examined during the third session: ▲ Ethnographic Research and Future Strategies for Southeast Asian Studies for Restoration of Ancient Pottery Production Methods (Jeon Yongho•NamSangwon•LeeHyewon, NRICH), ▲ Recent Results on the Research and Reconstruction Project of the Western Prasat Top, Angkor (Yuni Sato, Nara National Research Institute for Cultural Properties), ▲ Pursuing New Directions of Southeast Asian Cultural Heritage ODA Project (BaekKyunghwan, Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation), ▲ ASPCS and OTTP systems for restoration of Southeast Asian cultural heritage and future tasks (Lee Jaesung, NRICH).
Prof. Kang Heejung will chair the discussion between Korean researchers to develop new approaches to studying ancient cultures in Southeast Asia. The symposium is expected to enable the participants to exchange their opinions freely, so it can serve as an opportunity to discover new research outlooks between Southeast Asian countries, Korea, and Eurasian countries, where there were not many exchanges thus far. This event is hoped to bring a beacon to explore some investigation and research results of Southeast Asian Archaeology and enable joint excavations and research.
The NRICH of the Cultural Heritage Administration, as the central research institute in the field of archaeology in and outside of the country, will continue to strive to lead international archaeological research and share the results.
